Pacific Northwest- In May and June, we traveled the Pacific coast from Mendocino, California, up around the Olympic Peninsula to Seattle. Our goal was to photograph the beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline, the redwood forests of northern California, and the Washington rain forests. It was a great trip even though the beginning or the trip was cold and wet with flat, overcast skies. Later on, when we wanted overcast skies to photograph the redwood and rain forests, we had very bright sunny days. However, we can’t complain about a sunny day in the Northwest - beautiful. If you have ever tried to photograph the essence of redwood or rain forests, you know how challenging it can be to capture the feeling of being there. We did our best and you can see many of the images in the Pacific Northwest Regional image library or by clicking here. All the photographs from this trip are also included in the “New Images” gallery or by clicking here.
Mountain Wildflowers- Late July and early August are prime time for wildflowers in the high country of Colorado. This year, we headed to the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado. The San Juan’s encompass the historic towns of Ouray and Telluride. The best flowers are at high altitude, usually close to timber line, so you need to have a good pair of legs and lungs - or - a Jeep Wrangler will do. We were surprised to find that our favorite places weren’t as impressive this year and had to scout out new places with the help of town locals. The good news is that we have learned about some new areas to add to our stash of places to photograph. You can see many of the wildflower photographs in the “New Images” gallery (along with Pacific Northwest images) by clicking here or in the "Wildflower" library by clicking here .
New Product - We have been experimenting with new photo mounting techniques and are ready to announce our FotoSlate products. These are images printed on photographic paper and mounted on slate - as in natural hard-rock slate. The slate provides a beautiful, natural backdrop that works well with landscape and wildlife images. We take your choice of image, crop it, print it and laminate it to a hand-selected slate tile. We hand pick tiles combining the best color and texture to complement the image. FotoSlates come in various sizes - most common is 6”x6” slates that can be set on an easel or wall-mounted. Larger tiles are available. To date we have used tiles up to 16”X16”. The larger FotoSlates are heavy, so we only recommend displaying them on tabletop with an easel. FotoSlates make excellent gifts. See more by clicking on FotoSlates on the top menu or clicking here.
